Another group examination.

In the grand tradition of doing things completely at random, I was struck by the desire to do something a little like Kitty’s inkblot feature, only with some actual results. The combination I decided on struck me when my friend Lauren, who occasionally appears on this site as Gnome, sent me some random quiz from Beliefnet . Looking at some of the others on that site gave me the idea for this feature. All of the quiz names I’ll use here can be found on that site. Now then, aren’t you curious to see how the various members of The Jux Entente rated when they were asked questions about…RELIGION$%@$%@#$%

Quiz 1: What’s your spirituality?
Graeme: (53) Spiritual Straddler; One foot in traditional religion, one foot in free-form spirituality.
Laurie: (74) Questioning Believer; You have doubts about the particulars but not the Big Stuff.
Kenny: (45) Active Spiritual Seeker; Spiritual but turned off by organized religion.
Travis: (87) Confident Believer; You have little doubt you’ve found the right path.

The results for this one are pretty spot on, as you probably could have gleaned from the site. I refuse to adhere to the feudalistic, paganized Christian beliefs or the overly authoritative Islamic faiths. I’m really more a deist than anything, but I’m a deist that believes in the Judaic “God” (wiff a capital!). And yes, that is a separate god than the one worshipped by Islam or Christianity. I’m also smart enough to recognize that Buddhism is inherently flawed, otherwise that would be my logical religion. Or maybe I should say it’s fatally flawed, because all religions are flawed. Can’t figure out the contradiction in Buddhism? To achieve Nirvana, you have to purge yourself of all desires. But, if you desire to lack desire, you still desire. Yeah. Laurie’s results probably ended up a bit more organized that she would admit to, but it’s understandable, especially if you know her family. She’s been backlashed into it! Kenny is about as anti organized in his religious beliefs as you can get, so his score might actually be a little high. Travis, the born again protestant, pulls in a score that both matches his belief, and stands as the only one of us to be at either extreme end.

Quiz 2: What’s your spiritual path?
Graeme: (132) Serene Sightseer; There’s nothing you like better than a little moonlight meditation. You like to check out a lot of different faiths and aren’t scared to ask questions. You’d most likely enjoy religions and spiritualities that stress individual practice.
Laurie: (151) Nuts about Nature; You love camaraderie and campfires, but it’s nature that’s your spiritual space. Many groups practice in nature and incorporate it into their daily spiritual lives. Get out there and get involved!
Kenny: (197) Nuts about Nature;
Travis: (132) Serene Sightseer;

I don’t know what is scarier about this quiz. Is it the fact that Travis and I got the exact same score, or that Kenny, semi reclusive technophile, was only three points away from a perfect score on the nature side. Either way, I’m a bit creeped out. Are they right? Yeah, mostly. Kenny’s…

Quiz 3: What’s your spiritual intelligence?
Graeme: 20, Holistic Seeker; You are striving to become balanced in body, mind, and spirit.
Laurie: 21, Holistic Seeker;
Kenny: 18, Holistic Seeker;
Travis: 23, Spiritually Adept; You consistently act with spiritual intelligence, through sensitivity, compassion, and understanding.

This one is pretty self explanatory. Travis has to be skewed to the spiritual over mental (logical, reasonable) intelligence side, otherwise he wouldn’t have been able to pull the extreme score he did on Quiz #1 earlier. Whether or not this is a good sacrifice is up to you. Kenny is close to doing the same thing, in the opposite direction, but still falls in the middle ground category.

Okay, so, after being tested on our various spiritual aspects…did this feature really turn out any different than you thought it would? I fall in the middle ground of every test. Laurie falls pretty close in the middle, but skewed more to the organized religion/spiritual side. Kenny, depending on the situation, flips back and forth, but is usually on the less spiritual side of the equation. Travis is the only organized religious person here, and it shows. It’s obvious he’s a neophyte Christian.
