A brief moment of seriousness here, my people. I have recently decided to half-venture into the realm of self publishing. No, I am not talking about my novel; when I finish the third draft of THAT, I will start shopping it around elsewhere. What I’m talking about is a sort of compilation of short stories, to see if there’s any demand out there in the web…and around here…for me. Maybe it could get me noticed, who knows…I doubt it though. I’ve also thought of doing it as a Jux Entente book, and asking Travis to perhaps contribute some poetry, whatever.
Some of the stories I would add a bit of spit-shine too. Others, I can think of at least one in particular, I would double check for any typos and then let it be. Those have already been published at least once. I even know what I’d call it. Elliott always hated my idea of calling my short story collection The Persistence of Loss , and someone has already taken Minor Works , so I’ve decided on Detritus . This is not destined to be one of the great literary compendums of history. This is just meant to be a way for me to put something out there, and to give these stories a bit of a chance to breathe…whether they deserve it or not. In addition to all the stuff that people have been reading for years, there would be at least one new story, and perhaps a few Jux features would find themselves reborn. If I can swing it, and I’m not sure how I’m going to do this since I have two very good options, I might even publish it as Jux Entente Press.
But I’ll need your support. This will go up in our store, one way or another, and it will be the only for-profit item in there. I won’t make much, but I will make a little. I need to know if any of you out there, and those just around here, will support my writing. This means everyone reading this, from Travis and Kenny down to the random people I don’t even know. You’ve seen samples of some of my stories on the site, and some (well, at least one) that puts any of those to shame will appear in this set.
There’s a good chance that the effort I expect to put into this will stifle the Halloween story, and maybe even normal feature production. But it’s something I need to do. And even if it fails, I’m going ahead with my novel.
