I’ve finished building my new computer. I am posting from it now. It is awesome, and my gigantic monitor has no dead pixels. The case is sex. Even though I’m really depressed about how this computer came about, I’m extremely pleased with what I’ve put together and how well it all works. Honestly, if I didn’t know better I’d say I was a professional. ;)

Full updates with pictures shall come soon. Right now I’m updating windows and thinking about how to transfer all of my data best. Firefox, which I’m posting from, was the easiest. Thank you, Google Browser Sync.

I’ve been away so long that I’ve been attempting to use Macintosh keyboard shortcuts the entire time I’ve been writing this post. Weirdness.

Got a few updates coming, I just haven’t felt like sitting down at my laptop. Luckily my parts will arrive tonight and my dark work can begin. In brief:

Laura’s farewell dinner was very nice, and I got to meet her best friend Danielle finally. Who was also very nice.

Kenny, Travis and I fulfilled our life’s ambition to wait in line at Wal-Mart to get Super Smash Brothers Brawl at midnight launch. I remembered to get a (shitty) picture of the line and a (good) picture of us holding our copies, which I will post in a media update to follow new PC construction. What I forgot to get was a picture of the three of us playing Connect 4 in the Subway within Wal-Mart. Strangely, we didn’t get that many weird looks. The guy who closed up the Subway even said he didn’t mind us staying so long as we didn’t steal anything. Travis and I also discovered another of Kenny’s arcane talents: he kicks ass at connect 4.

As most of you are aware, the general policy on content removal here at the Jux Entente is “never.” There’s quite a bit of unflattering stuff and bickering we keep up here just for archival purposes. That being said, we have taken stuff down in the past when necessary. Previous to today, that count stood at just one newspost, and that post became something of an in joke even in its undeath.

Well, I was just asked to remove a feature from the site for what I feel is a very good reason. And it is done. I don’t think it would be wise to go into further specifics here. Those with good memories will be able to figure it out anyway eventually, but that’s neither here nor there.

There’s not much to say beyond the above, other than that I’m sorry I missed your phone call and it took me a few hours to do this.

In perhaps the only good news in the entire world lately (confused? see below for the past several days), Nine Inch Nails just released a gigantic new instrumental album, unannounced, unrumored, and for free on BitTorrent. As in, they uploaded it to tracker sites themselves at a 320 bitrate.

$5 gets you FLAC.

damn guys. I knew you were serious, but I didn’t know how serious. Mad props. Go Ghosts I-IV!

Duh duh duuuuuuuuuuuh.

She’s Dead, Jim.
She’s dead, Jim.
Really, really dead.
Really, really dead.

Now I begin the confounding confunctions of confragulation.

Okay, those words mean nothing. Actual problem: Upgrade or replace? iMac or new proc/CPU/RAM/drives/everything? Khan or no Khan?

KHAAAAAAAAN.

KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN.

KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN.

Attempting to figure out whether or not my Windows system is having problems due to hardware or software. So I’m testing the hardware using this Ubuntu live CD (One screen supported…boohoo) and, of course, surviving using my iBook.

You have no idea how much I wish I had money right now. If it is something hardware, I probably (definitely) can’t afford to replace/fix it. Of course I can’t afford to do it with software, either. So basically I’m just screwed.

Quite a week.

All through high school I watched the History channel while sitting at home. For school work, chatting on IRC, coding, what have you: the History channel was there in the background, like a faithful friend.

In early college it continued on much the same and even created some awesome new series.

Then it all changed. Over the past few years it has been nothing but Modern Marvels, Ice Road Truckers, UFO Files, Modern Ice Road Marvels, UFO Truckers, and Modern UFO Ice Road Marble Madness Trucker Files. None of which have jack and/or shit to do with history.

Like that weird friend who drank and inhaled literally anything he could find to get high, I felt it was time to leave the History channel behind. Plus I got a DVR and could afford to only watch actually entertaining things.

Years pass.

Today arrives, and I am awake way too early on a Saturday. Background noise is needed. I’ve worn myself out on listening to music, as that’s what I do when I write, and I’m working on my thesis. The TiVo is empty except for Survivor which I’m saving for my girlfriend. I flip past the stations real quick on the TiVo-and-digital-guideless bedroom TV, looking for something vaguely entertaining to fill the air while I work on a German translation.

I hear the magic words. My friend has sobered up and has decided to stop by for a visit.

Drifting to my ears. That phrase I remember so well.

“Developed by the Germans in World War 2…”
